Find out how to become a Radio Amateur in the UK
the US national organization of Amateur Radio operators.

Radio and Astronomy
I am interested in both astronomy and radio, in particular the study of our own Sun and its relationship with radio propagation.
This website includes information relating to both of my hobbies and details of specific events and experiments.
G7FEK/P
I am a regular operator at the Norman Lockyer Observatory at Sidmouth in Devon, England. My hobby combines both Solar astronomy and radio, with a particular interest in radio propagation. Myself and Iain, M1OOO carry out experiments and special radio events at the observatory and provide special QSL cards for contact with our station.
GB400IYA
GB400IYA is a year long special event station. It is a portable station operated in the grounds of the Norman Lockyer observatory. GB400IYA is celebrating 400 years since the invention of the telescope and the International year of Astronomy. This is a rare once only callsign for your collection. On occasions this station is operated entirely on Solar Power.
GB2NLO
The callsign GB2NLO is the permanent special event callsign for the Observatory’s own radio group. The station is operational on HF, VHF, UHF and microwave bands.
The antenna systems available are as follows:
HF - Beam antenna on tower
HF - Crossed dipole antenna
50 Mhz - Vertical monopole antenna and 5 element horizontal beam
145 Mhz - beam antenna on tower (both Horizontal and vertical)
435 Mhz - beam antenna on tower (vertical polarisation)
