The troubled radio station Big-L is still off the air on Medium Wave. They went off air at the end of last week.
With its transmitters based in Holland, having to shut down between 7 and 10 pm and having poor daytime coverage of only the Eastern UK coastline, Big-L has found it extremely difficult to build the revenues it needs to survive. They still have a satellite feed on Sky channel 190 and over the Internet.
I am hoping this is not the beginning of the end because there are few truly independent radio stations left in existence and music choice these days is quite poor. It comes to something when the only way to get a truly independent station on the air is to beam in from another country. How far have we really come since Radio Luxembourg in the 1930's and Caroline in the 1960's and 70's? It shows that there is probably still a case for pirate radio!!.
There is a lot of speculation around the net on what's happening to BigL. I will give you further updates on this subject as soon as the 'real' news comes in.
